Report: Manchester City now top favorites to sign Everton defender John Stones

One of English football's hottest prospects will finally change clubs, and his landing spot appears to be the Etihad Stadium.

Everton defender John Stones eventually stayed with his club this season after Chelsea failed to complete his signing following multiple unsuccessful attempts. Despite his huge £40 million price tag, Stones remains a much desired commodity for not only Chelsea but the other title contenders.

Arsenal and Manchester United were linked with the 21-year-old all season, but according to a report from Daily Mirror, it is Manchester City who look the most likely to sign Stones this summer. The English international is a big part of Pep Guardiola's plans to rebuild the City squad, and is not only a key player for next season but will be brought in as the star for the future of the Blues' defense.

Because of Martin Demichelis' decline and the uncertainty over Vincent Kompany's health, Stones would certainly be a great addition to the new-look City backline. While a report from the Mirror in no way guarantees the deal will happen, it's not bad to see the club showing their interest. If the transfer goes through, we'll have a big talent.
