Manchester City has won three straight games in the Premier League after a great 3-0 victory on the road against reigning champions Chelsea thanks to a hat-trick from Sergio Agüero. In an entertaining match, the Citizens withstood the pressure from the hosts and capitalized on their chances, with the amazing talents of the team's stars doing the job for the Blues of Manchester.
FIRST HALF
A very entertaining initial 45 minutes started with both teams wide open on defense, leaving huge gaps for long passes and counter-attacks. Pedro had a huge chance for Chelsea, but Otamendi saved his team with a goal-line clearance. The hosts had the upper hand in the first 20 minutes, continuing to find spaces on City's defense and forcing Joe Hart to make important saves.
But as the game went along, City started to improve its defense, being more compact and alert and hitting the accelerator on every opportunity to counter. Kevin De Bruyne had a big chance on the break stopped by Courtois, the first indicator that something better from the Belgian playmaker was coming. Indeed, that happened when De Bruyne escaped again and found Agüero, who scored the opener with a little bit of luck when his finish deflected off Gary Cahill.
At halftime, a great game, a good performance by City and the prospect of a fun second half.
SECOND HALF
The final period followed the same script of the first half. Chelsea keeping the ball on the attacking half, City well organized at the back and launching lightning quick counter-attacks on every opportunity. That happened less than then minutes in, when De Bruyne took the ball in his own box, carried all the way to the other half and found Samir Nasri; the Frenchman then played a beautiful pass to Agüero who easily beat the keeper for the second goal.
With a two-score lead, the Citizens gained confidence in their strategy and continued to pick the right moments to attack without opening themselves up to a Chelsea goal that would complicate the match. That plan worked to perfection when Fernadinho ran through the entire defense and was fouled by Courtois, who was sent off with a straight red card. Agüero buried the penalty kick and completed his hat-trick.
In the end, a sensational victory, a great performance, three wins in a row in the Premier League and huge momentum in the biggest moment of the season. Good times.
