Manchester City hope to win a third straight Premier League match this Saturday, at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, and they will have to do it without three key men.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed on his pre-game press conference that midfielder David Silva, winger Raheem Sterling and defender Vincent Kompany will miss the trip to London because of injuries. The Spaniard has an ankle problem, Sterling is nursing a groin issue while the Belgian captain is close to returning from a calf strain.
Other than the three, all first team players are available to face Chelsea thanks to no suspensions. Silva, Sterling and Kompany are all expected to be in uniform to face Newcastle next Tuesday.
Pellegrini sees Chelsea as a key match, and the first three points the Citizens need to pick up before the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid.
"Chelsea is an important game. We have three Premier League games before the Champions League, it's a very important nine points with qualification to next season's Champions League in mind.
"The target is to try to add as many points as we can from now until the end of season and we’ll see where we finish. The first and second position doesn’t depend completely on us, though."
