It is official.
Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho is the deadliest striker in EPL history.
While that statement is slightly misleading, it sure has a nice ring to it. Technically speaking, Iheanacho has broken the all-time record for goals-per-minute, when a sample size of at least ten goals is considered.
The Nigerian averages a goal every 95.6 minutes. To put that number into perspective, Sergio Agüero manages a goal every 107.1 minutes, which is a ridiculous rate in itself.
Two years ago, the Argentine broke Thiery Henry's record after scoring within 25 seconds of being on the pitch against Liverpool.
It is naive to think that Iheanacho is on the same level as Thiery Henry or Sergio Agüero, but if the striker continues to impress in front of goal, he could definitely pick up the latter's mantle.
On form, Agüero is the most prolific striker in the Premier League. However, the Argentine has had his issues with current coach Pep Guardiola, and his injury record suggests that Iheanacho will be seeing a lot of minutes in this season.
If things go on as they are, it wouldn't be extreme to suggest that Kelechi Iheanacho is the man to lead the Citizens in the future.
