Manchester City’s chances of signing Juventus star defender Leonardo Bonucci have gone out the window as the 29-year-old has signed a new contract with his current club.
City have been consistently linked with the Italian since Pep Guardiola’s arrival as the Catalan is an admirer Leonardo’s talent.
It has been reported by multiple news outlets that the Sky Blues were preparing a £50 million bid to convince the Serie A giants to say goodbye to one of their most highly glorified players.
According to City CEO Ferran Soriano, Bonucci was tempted to move to the Etihad.
“The Italian central defender Bonucci wants to play for [Guardiola] and he called us,” he told Spanish radio station RAC1.
City’s defensive woes in the first half of the 2016/17 season have warranted the search for yet another central defender. They now must look elsewhere and as of now, Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk appears to be Guardiola’s most likely option.
