Messi to Manchester City rumors gain attention - could they be true?

In the recent papers, rumors of Lionel Messi’s possible move to Manchester City have began to spread. Word of a potential £200m move this coming summer is exciting, yet it still appears unlikely. The Argentine has remained loyal to Barcelona for the entirety of his career despite having the ability to play for any club in whichever country he desires. Could the summer of 2017 finally be the end of Messi’s time at Barcelona?

Although the prospect of signing the greatest football player of all time is mouth-watering, the likelihood of it actually occurring is slim. Lionel will almost certainly use these reports as leverage in his contract talks with the Blaugrana. City supporters must not get their hopes up yet. We should believe it only when the club officially announces it, and that probably won't happen.

As much as the truth of these rumors may disappoint you, we do not really need Messi. Of course we should not pass on the opportunity to bring a player of his level to the club, however, players like Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, and our plethora of young talent proves that City would have no reason to panic if the papers turn out to be incorrect.
