According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Barcelona winger Lionel Messi declined a new contract extension offer from his club, and it seems as if he will wait until his current contract expires in 2018 to decide on his future.

Messi will be 31 years old when his contract ends, so he should have plenty years ahead of him to play for another club if he leaves. Manchester City have been constantly linked with Messi since Pep Guardiola became City’s manager, as the duo have previous experience when Guardiola managed the Barca squad from 2008-12.

“It was an honour to be the coach of the best player I have ever seen and probably the best I will see,” said Guardiola when referring to Messi.

Sergio Aguero played with the La Masia graduate this weekend for Argentina in a 3-0 loss against Brazil in a World Cup qualifier game. The teammates are known for their especially strong relationship, so a Messi move to Manchester might be as likely as ever right now; however, it is difficult to see Leo swap the Catalan colors for the Sky Blues.

But you never know.
