Vincent Kompany made his long-awaited return to the starting lineup in Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Southampton. Seeing his name in the first eleven raised some worry among the fans, as the Belgian has struggled to survive his comebacks without recurrence of his injuries.

Although City disappointed yet again, Vincent looked solid. He fought hard from start to finish. He also committed some crunching tackles, which earned him a yellow card. He was the shining light in what was a poor display from the defense. Kompany could have done more to prevent Nathan Redmond’s goal, however John Stones was predominantly at fault.

Despite an unlucky two years of poor form and injuries, the man with the armband will be hoping to earn back his spot in the starting XI. This match will leave fans questioning who the center-back pairing will now include. After Stones’ recent lack of success, it appears likely that he will be dropped in favor of a Kompany-Otamendi partnership.

The Sky Blues’ back line is an area of concern, and Pep Guardiola along with the fans will hope that Vincent Kompany is the solution.
