According to recent reports, Sergio Agüero’s future at Manchester City is in doubt. The Argentinean has experienced tension with new manager Pep Guardiola, as stated by The Telegraph. The club has declared that these allegations are completely false, and he will sign a four-year contract extension shortly.
Pep Guardiola, as we all know, is a football genius. He knows how important Sergio is to the squad, and dropping him for one match does not instantly mean there is a problem. Agüero’s fitness has been questioned recently, and his form appears shaky. With two penalty misses and overall failure to hit the net in recent matches, it makes perfect sense that Guardiola would bench him in favor of an extra midfielder against Barcelona. The knee-jerk reactions are unwarranted, and the fan-favorite will be back in the squad before we know it.
It has been speculated that Guardiola is looking for replacements. The names being thrown around are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Antoine Griezmann. While these players are currently some of the best on the planet, they are not at the level of Sergio Agüero. Other reports include that Pep will have Gabriel Jesus fight to steal Sergio’s spot come January. The Brazilian is a world-beating talent, however, he is inordinately young to lead the strike force of a top club like Manchester City. He will imaginably fill the striker position one day, along with Kelechi Iheanacho, but that day is not coming as soon as January.
In short, it is ludicrous to suggest that Pep Guardiola will end Sergio Aguero’s career in a Sky Blue shirt. Fans can breathe easy, as the club will not be losing another legendary servant.
