Yesterday several published reports indicated that Eliaquim Mangala would be loaned to Valencia as part of a deal that would see the much sought after Nicolas Otamendi head the other way. But today both The Daily Mail and The Mirror report that Mangala who has played well in the both of Manchester City's 3-0 victories to start the season will not be allowed to leave the club. Per the Daily Mail report Valencia have asked as well for Rony Lopes on loan. Lopes was bumped up to the first team this season after an outstanding year on loan at Lille in France. Lopes last made a first team appearance for City in early 2014.
The timing of the potential transfer/swap raised eyebrows as news stories began to break in the Spanish press just hours after the Blues 3-0 victory over Chelsea. In the that match Mangala was by most accounts outstanding. Last season Mangala had trouble when working with Vincent Kompany as a center back pairing but the two seem to be combining well early on this season.
The highly-rated Otamendi is a transfer target for several clubs including Manchester United.
