City will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss against Crystal Palace and reclaim some dignity at the highly anticipated Manchester derby. There are some key players for City that will need to perform to their full ability against a highly talented United team.
United currently sit in third place in the Premier League standings and are in a Champions League spot with 62 points. City are hot on their trails with 61 points and a Champions League qualifying spot. This makes the Derby an ever important match for both sides and really provides City with an opportunity to get back on track, but in order to do so they will need to rely on some key players.
Vincent Kompany: The skipper will be vital if City hopes to get a good result out of Saturday's fixture. He is a tough player that can battle hard on the defensive end. Kompany will need to bring that intensity when hoping to stop the likes of Rooney, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera. Despite the recent drop of form for City, Kompany believes that the Derby could do them well, saying the following,
"A derby is a derby. It doesn't matter what place you are in the league, it's a derby. If anything, it's a good moment to go into a derby.
"I guess the momentum is a little bit with our neighbours at the moment, but it's the perfect place for us to go and try to rectify what we've had here."
Perfectly put by the Belgian international. It is in fact the perfect place to rectify the disappointing form City have been in recently. The Captain, however, will have to play his hardest and will have to truly believe the words he speaks.
Frank Lampard: A legendary player in the Premier League with loads of experience could be they key factor in the Manchester Derby. Although his best days are behind him he could provide a spark off of the bench and help lead City to glory before he moves on to the MLS after this season.
Sergio Aguero: The key offensive piece for City will have to play his heart out like the fans know that he can, he is currently sitting on 17 goals on the season, just two behind the like of Harry Kane and Diego Costa. Aguero will need to turn on his goal scoring switch and hope to lead City to victory like he has so many times in the past.
As badly as City would like to turn their season around, United look to keep on going strong and are fierce competitors who are taking this upcoming Derby as serious as their neighbours.
Marouane Fellaini spoke of the upcoming Derby, saying that United "have to do everything to win". The United midfielder continued saying,
"It's a massive game. It's a derby game, so it will be intense for the players and the supporters."
Phil Jones of United also is looking ahead to the Derby with hopes that the team can play to their full potential and not take City lightly, saying,
"City are still a good team. We know what they're capable of and the threat they have going forward. They've got some great players in their squad but so have we. We've seen in the last few weeks and all season really, what sort of team we can be when we turn up and play our football. Hopefully, we can do that on Sunday as well."
Both clubs are going into this derby to win it, the skill level of both teams are virtually equal. It will come down to heart and desire. This will be the spark that City need if they can take advantage of the opportunity. This in fact, will be the defining moment of City's season, let's hope that it is a memorable moment for all the right reasons.
