Manchester City have defeated West Brom 3-0 in Match Day 30 of the Barclays Premier League.
City had 6 changes in the starting XI from the match against Barcelona. The players were Bacary Sagna, Aleksandar Kolarov, Martín Demichelis, Samir Nasri, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure and Edin Džeko. The players who took their places were Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta, Eliaquim Mangala, Jesus Navas, Frank Lampard, Fernando Reges and Wilfried Bony. It was Lampard's first start in the Premier League for City this season.
The match quickly began after West Brom defender, James McAuley, was sent off for a late last-man challenge on striker Wilfried Bony in the first 90 seconds of the match. After a period of domination, which included all of the West Brom starting XI defending in their own box, Wilfried Bony scored his first goal for City in the 26th minute after Fernando Reges took a shot, which deflected in Bony's direction, for 1-0. Fernando Reges scored the second goal for City in the 40th minute off a corner, after he was able to make the most of a defensive miscue between West Brom goalkeeper, Boaz Myhill, and one of his center backs.
The second half began in similar fashion for City, who kept their pressing game on West Brom, who were forced to retreat to their own defending third. After many pressing attacks, which culminated on many occasions with shots off the post, City were able to score a third goal. It came in the 76th minute from David Silva, after substitute Stevan Jovetic took a corner, which Silva shot with his left foot.
Following the match, Manuel Pellegrini told a BBC Sport reporter, "It was a comfortable win because we played with one more player for 89 minutes. We defended well and concentrated well not to let them score."
In reference to the McAuley sending-off, Pellegrini said "Unfortunately for West Brom, the rule is clear. He was the last man but the game is different when you have to play with one less player. It was a clear red card."
In reference to £30 million new boy Wilfried Bony scoring his first goal for City, Pellegrini added, "Wilfried Bony is new in the squad and arrived after playing in the Africa Cup of Nations and he felt that. Every day he is settling better and he is doing very well."
