Another disappointing result and another lethargic display from City. Pellegrini's dogged persistence with his favoured 4-4-2 was shown up again by a Burnley side that worked harder, ran further and showed an intensity that City couldn't match. We run through the City side and see how they performed.
Joe Hart 6
Didn't have much of a chance with Boyd's cracking half volley, Hart spent the most of the game practising his kicking as his defence soaked up a lot of the pressure.
Pablo Zabaleta 7
One of the few to exhibit some passion, Zabaleta put in his usual shift down the flank but his service was wasted by City's attack.
Martin Demichelis 6
Lucky to last the ninety minutes, Demichelis looked sluggish and tired and frequently found himself chasing shadows. Showed poor decision making in his challenges but for the most part his reading of the game was decent and he managed to contain most threats.
Vincent Kompany 5
His big chance to prove the doubters wrong ended in mediocre circumstances. Apart from the weak defensive header to set up Boyd's goal Kompany wasn't calamitous. It was bland, Kompany looking a skeleton of the player that has ruled 18 yard boxes for the last few years.
Gael Clichy 4
Looked unsure in possession and offered little threat going forward, Clichy made it the full ninety minutes this time but looked far from solid.
Jesus Navas 5
Made a few decent runs but as we have seen too often this season, his service in the final third just wasn't good enough. He struggled to thread the ball through a resolute Burnley defence, looking leadfooted at times.
David Silava 5
Usually so technically literate, the Spaniard's touch let him down in what was one of City's best chances. Overall a disappointing night for Silva considering his recent form, he struggled to impose himself on the game on a night where nothing worked.
Fernandinho 7
One of the few to show some fire, Fernandinho worked hard in midfield. He ventured into the final third quite a bit but his efforts were ultimately wasted.
Yaya Toure 5
Stuck in second gear for most of the game, Yaya struggled to keep pace with an energetic Burnley side. Showed moments of his quality but we're still left waiting for Yaya's return.
Sergio Aguero 5
An off day for our talisman, his movement was clever as usual but he was uncharacteristically wasteful with the chances. Not helped by an insipid midfield.
Edin Dzeko 4
Wasteful in front of goal, clumsy in touch and movement, this was a terrible display from the Bosnian.
Substitutions:
Wilfried Bony (For Dzeko, 63 mins.) 5
Didn't provide much threat in the box, City fans will have to wait for his debut goal.
Stefan Jovetic (For Silva, 74 mins) 5
Looked lively but didn't make an impact.
Frank Lampard (For Toure, 79 mins) 5
Replacing a 31 year old in the heart of your midfield with a 36 year old. Didn't change anything.
