No great surprise here but it was announced that Martin Demichelis will extend his stay at the club for a further 12 months, signing a new deal through to the summer of 2016. Speaking of the move, Demichelis said:
"I want to say that I am really proud and happy to have extended my contract for another year.Manchester City is a Club with a lot of ambition. We want to grow every year.
"When you get to hold a trophy, it's the best feeling for any player. I want to say that I will fight for this Club and for my teammates until the end of my contract. I will fight to try and win titles."
The timing of course comes just 24 hours after Matija Nastasic completed a permanent move to Schalke and caps a remarkable year for Demichelis, written off as a virtual laughing stock following his first couple of months at City. A year on though and who would have thought that Demichelis would have been the 'safe pair of hands' in the back line with the twin struggles of Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala?
The hope surely though is that Demichelis is more of a cover option next season, allowing City a further year to develop the Kompany-Mangala axis, whilst also waiting for Jason Denayer and Karim Rekik to fully challenge for a first team place.
