Manchester City defeated Southampton 3-1 on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. First half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Fabian Delph gave the Blues a 2-0 halftime lead, but Shane Long pulled one back for the Saints early in the second half before Alexsander Kolarov settled matters midway through the second half in Manchester City's favor. The victory put Manchester City back atop the Premier League on goal difference after the top two sides entering the weekend, Leicester City and Manchester United drew 1-1 at the King Power Stadium.
The Blues snapped a two-game Premier League winless streak and a two game losing streak in all competitions with the victory. City's attention now turns toward the League Cup Quarterfinals this Thursday as Hull City comes to town. The Tigers were relegated from the Premier League on the last day of the 2014-15 season but are among the league leaders in the Championship.
