No lull for Manchester City heading into the new season then.
After adding Eliquim Mangala, City this week announced new deals for David Silva and Vincent Kompany. Now you can add Sergio Aguero to the mix. The Argentinian became the latest to extend his stay at the club until 2019 (the year Silva and Kompany also extended to), saying:
"The reality seems to be that ever since I came here, during every close season, there have always been rumours suggesting that I might be returning to Spain.
"There has always been this speculation but I certainly never pay much attention to it.
"People hear this stuff flying around and they take it seriously but I can tell the fans and everyone at City to relax, I'm going to be here until I see out my contract."
There were a couple of interesting tweets I cam across regarding Aguero's deal and its effect on City's FFP compliance:
Sergio Aguero's new deal reduces annual FFP hit from £16.1m to £11.2m. Great business by MCFC to not only lock Aguero up, but also save £.— Jake Cohen (@JakeFCohen) August 14, 2014
Shuddertothink wrote about City's contact strategy earlier this week and I'll have more on this in a piece up tomorrow.
