World Cup Day 17: Open Thread

The knock-out stages are here!

Phil Walter

After a brief pause for breath yesterday following the conclusion of the group stages we are straight on to the round of 16 today with two games: Brazil v Chile and Colombia v Uruguay, two all-South American clashes wish should bring us two very watchable games based on their play in their respective groups.

In terms of City interest it has been confirmed that Fernandinho will start for Brazil. On this topic this piece from Miguel Delaney on Fernandinho and his role in the side is a good read. With 16 teams remaining in the tournament this means that five City players have already headed home and overall it has not been the most successful World Cup for the City contingent. Here's my take for The Metro.
