A boost for City in the last 24 hours after UEFA's General Secretary, Gianni Infantino, has confirmed that City will only require five homegrown players in next season's Champions League. To make things even easier, only one of those five needs to have been trained at the club. A number of players could easily fit that bill; most notably Dedryck Boyata, as Micah Richards seems to be set to leave the club.
This will essentially remove any restrictions City might have placed on their transfer dealings this summer in regards to having a quota of English players. Personally, I'm surprised that they cut out so many players from the homegrown requirement, but I'm certainly not complaining.
The confirmation comes on the back of pressure from FIFPro, the players' union. For a relative comparison, Paris St. Germain have been handed the exact same requirements.
