Week 26 (Sortable Tables)

All tables set to Close Game State.

TSR

This is each teams share of the shots count. Tied tells us about a teams share of the shots when the score is tied. Close is when the score is tied or within a single goal. Total is all game situations (0-0's or 5-1's etc).

Man City have a significant lead at Close and a slight lead over Chelsea at Tied. Tottenham are third. Man United are a sub-par shots team at Tied which is really not very good at all.

In fact, United's Tied shots share is closer to Cardiff's terrible 20th placed number that it is to Man City's 1st place number.

SoTR

Chelsea are currently the best close SoTR team in the PL. City are a shade behind, then there's a decent sized gap to Arsenal and Liverpool.

Crystal Palace post an almost shocking 47% share of the Close shots on target. Shocking for 2 reasons:

  1. I thought they were dead and buried, with or without the manager change that took place.
  2. I think I am right in this, but correct me if I am wrong, but Pulis has never really posted shots numbers this impressive at Stoke where, arguably, he may have had more talent at his disposal.
Cardiff are buried.

Well, looks like the teams that are below league average in Tied shot blocking are pretty good teams save for Cardiff. The below average teams are also those who tend not to get hemmed in their own defensive third.

There's also something going on with Southampton and Man City's defensive schemes. Both teams post waaaay below league average shot blocking percentages.

Close Game State Scoring%

Set to Tied.

City and Liverpool are posting bananas numbers at Tied. Not sure how sustainable those numbers are, just as Arsenal's early season 55% Tied scoring% number wasn't sustainable.

Tottenham are league average at Tied which is a little bit of a surprise.

Some teams are posting terrible numbers at Minus 1 -- Newcastle, Palace, West Ham are just a few of those teams.

Arsenal are posting a crazy number at plus 1 and if we consider just how much time they have spent at Plus 1 (612 minutes -- 4th best in PL) then it's easy to see why their overall save% number (1st in PL) is so good.
