City sign Martin Dimechelis

It was confirmed earlier this evening that Martin Demichelis has signed for City for a fee of £5million, bringing an end to his brief spell at Atletico Madrid after only joining the club this summer on a free transfer from Malaga.

Although Matija Nastasic returned to action yesterday in the victory over Hull, the absence of Vincent Kompany has highlighted the lack of depth in central defence with Manuel Pellegrini clearly not enamoured by the makeshift options of either Javi Garcia or Micah Richards, or the option of youngster Dedryck Boyata, whose future at the club is surely coming to an end.

The move will also raise doubts over the future of Joleon Lescott, an ever present this season but out of contract next summer and likely to now slip to fourth choice with the arrival of Demichelis.
