Well, that went wayyyy better than previous years. City have been drawn in Group D against Champions League holders Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow, and Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League group stage. Given the possible permutations, City have gotten a pretty reasonable draw, one we should advance from. The away trip to Moscow will be tough, but if the Russian champions lose playmaker Honda to AC Milan, it should be easier.
Schedule: September 17: Plzen (A), October 2: Bayern (H), October 23: CSKA (A), November 5: CSKA (H), November 27: Plzen (H), December 10: Bayern (A)
The rest of the groups are:
Group A: Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Sociedad
Group B: Real Madrid, Juventus, Galatasaray, FC Copenhagen
Group C: Benfica, PSG, Olympiakos, Anderlecht
Group E: Chelsea, Schalke, FC Basel, Steaua Bucharest
Group F: Arsenal, Marseille, Dortmund, Napoli
Group G: FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, Zenit St. Petersburg, Austria Vienna
Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, Ajax, Celtic
The toughest group is easily Group F, which should be a lot of fun to watch. United have been given a tricky group as well. Galatasaray would have a pretty decent chance of getting out of most other groups, but Madrid and Juve may prove to be too much. Chelsea have been given a relatively easy draw, rounding out the English teams. Overall, a good day for City. Can't wait for the matches to begin.
