Somewhat drawn out in the end but the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as manager was confirmed by the club this afternoon:
Manchester City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as first team manager.
Pellegrini, who joins the Club on a three year contract, will take up the role from 24th June.
Reacting to his appointment Pellegrini said: "I am delighted to accept this hugely exciting opportunity. The Club has a clear vision for success both on and off the pitch and I am committed to making a significant contribution."
Pellegrini confirmed that he will bring with him three members of his backroom staff from Malaga. Argentinian Ruben Cousillas will be Pellegrini's assistant, while Xabier Mancisidor will be goalkeeping coach and Jose Cabello fitness coach. Brian Kidd will also remain at the club.
Pellegrini also conducted a short interview to coincide with his appointment, with a couple of areas in particular standing out: the attacking style of play he will look to adopt and also the importance of the club as a whole (linking in with Patrick Vieira and the Academy set up) or the 'holistic' approach cited in the wake of Roberto Mancini's departure.
