International Round-up

A look at the City players on international duty this week.

Paul Gilham

A number of City players secured their passage to Brazil yesterday evening as many of the qualifying stages reached their conclusion.

Joe Hart kept a clean sheet as England progressed through a nervy evening at Wembley to defeat Poland 2-0. James Milner was a second half substitute and both should be named in the squad to travel to the finals. On the outside looking in though are Joleon Lescott, Jack Rodwell and Micah Richards, all who look unlikely to make the final squad.

Edin Dzeko helped Bosnia-Herzegovina make their first ever major tournament with a 1-0 win over Lithuania to spark wild celebrations after missing out in the playoffs for the past two tournaments.

Spain too confirmed their progress and will defend their title after a 2-0 win against Georgia. Alvaro Negredo was again on the scoresheet and fellow-Blue Jesus Navas also started the game. Spain pipped France to the automatic position and the French will now face a playoff as an unseeded side despite Samir Nasri featuring in the 3-0 victory over Finland.

Stevan Jovetic showed some much needed form and fitness as he netted twice for Montenegro who were defeated 5-2 by Moldova and both Aleksandar Kolarov and Matija Nastasic played 90 minutes in Serbia's 5-1 win over Macedonia. Argentina, who had already qualified, were defeated 3-2 against Uruguay and neither Pablo Zabaleta nor Sergio Aguero featured.
