Book review: Typical City by David Mooney

New, comments

'Typical City' follows the journey from the start of the 2008-09 season, right up to the end of the 2011-12 season, featuring match reports and opinion columns by David Mooney, as Manchester City complete their rise from their lowest point in 1998 back to last years Premier League title.

David, amongst many things, is also the host of the excellent Blue Moon podcast (I do recommend you check it out if you haven't already done so) and here he delivers an enjoyable read as he takes you back through to the start of the 2008/09 with match reports of every game interspersed with opinion pieces.

In taking you back to the days of the takeover you do realise quite how much has actually happened to City in such a relatively short space of time, all neatly summarised in 'The Turning Points' section. There is also a statistical breakdown and for those who have suffered a little longer than most, there is a timeline of world events to have occurred in the forty-four year gap since City previously won the title.

Having read this over the past weekend I can most definitely recommend 'Typical City', which you can order directly from David's website.

I do also have a copy of David Mooney's new book, 'Typical City', to give away to readers of Bitter and Blue. To have a chance of winning the book simply send an email to bitterandblue@hotmail.co.uk by midnight (UK) time on Wednesday 18th July. (The competition is open to both UK and non-UK residents)
