With four points from two games, Spain sit on the verge of qualifying to the knockout stages of Euro 2012. Their victory over Ireland saw them at their attacking best and after two games their Scoring Chance Index numbers are as follows:
A few observations through two games:
- No surprise to see Xavi, David Silva and Andreas Iniesta leading the way, but it is interesting to note that Iniesta - much lauded of course - has a lower Scoring Chance Index number; an indication perhaps of his deeper lying role?
- After not scoring at all against Italy, Alfonso Arbeloa notched an impressive score of seven against Ireland. Whilst Spain's defenders have contributed from an attacking sense they have yet to notch any defensive plus - or any minus marks for that matter.
- Fernando Torres came in for Cesc Fabregas for the Ireland game and posted a similar number to that Fabregas managed agains Italy. It will be interesting to see who Vicente del Bosque opts for in Spain's games ahead.
