If getting back to winning ways is todays requirement, the message from Roberto Mancini is to get back to basics. With questions raised about the defensive lapses of late, the Italian wants a return to the controlled displays of earlier in the season, where clean sheets were the platform that victories were built on:
"We have conceded too many goals and this must change," the Manchester City manager said. "It has been a big problem for us. You can have moments like this in a season but you must get past it.
"I like 1-0 wins. When you don't concede a goal and you have players like Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez or David Silva, you win 90%.
Despite suggestions earlier in the week, Joe Hart will remain in goal with the only changes being a replacement for Micah Richards (Kolo Toure the likeliest with Jerome Boateng moving to right back) and Yaya Toure coming back into the side.
If Mancini is looking for less goals, it is unlikely todays opponents will oblige. City of course triumphed 4-2 earlier in the season at The Hawthorns and West Brom possess the leakiest defence in the Premier League.
