Sunderland player ratings

Given - No chance with the goal from Jones and very little else to do. Kicking not at its strongest. 6.5

Richards - Showed some good flashes, but technique was exposed at times. 5

Bridge - A brief afternoon but looked to be continuing his recent good form. 6.5

Kompany - Positional play was questioned over the goal but solid apart from that. 6.5

Lescott - Continued his strong play of late and must be a favourite to land a World Cup place. 7.5

de Jong - Couldn't generate much in the first half and overshadowed by Vieira in the second. 6

Zabaleta - Has some good and bad displays in midfield. This wasn't one of his better ones. 6

Barry - His form has been good of late. Got in some attack positions but finishing needs to be better. 7

Wright-Phillips - Had opportunities but never quite convinced when taking the attack to Sunderland. 6

Bellamy - Came more into it as the game wore on. Must be amazed that he didn't get on the scoresheet. 6.5

Tevez - Not quite as high standard as recent games, but all the usual traits were evident. 6.5

Subs:

Santa Cruz - Introduced early and his presence was felt in attack. Needs games though. 6.5

Vieira - Our revival in the game coincided with his introduction. A real presence in the middle. 7

Johnson - Was always looking to run at players and attack the goal. Composed finish to earn the point. 7.5
