Dzeko move 'close'

After months of speculation, news gathered pace today with reports that a move to bring Edin Dzeko to the club from Wolfsburg was moving closer. Sky Sports suggest that both clubs are in 'advanced talks':

Reports claim that City are ready to pay 30million Euros (£25.6m) immediately for Dzeko and a further 5m Euros (£4.3m) if the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

I can't confess to having seen a huge amount of Dzeko but those opinions and judgements I trust state that he would be a fantastic addition, possessing plenty of key attributes with TK Karlsen tweeting:

dzeko: excellent in the air, clever movement, two-footed, can finish with power or precision, lovely touch - even decent one vs one, ok pace

It does appear that Dzeko's arrival (should it happen) would provide that different option for Mancini, a more direct forward and a more natural goalscorer than Tevez perhaps. A possible concern would be that Tevez would be squeezed in terms of the space he needs to be at his most effective, marauding across the front line with two wider players (Silva and Balotelli for example) in support. We have seen that when partnered with another striker Tevez does lose some of his potency.

That is not to say Tevez would be marginalised and it will be interesting to see the tactical adjustments to the side Dzeko would bring. Tevez could drop deeper for instance with Dzeko in a more advanced role or provide the opportunity to spell Tevez more often. The more mischeavous would also suggest that it would provide a great replacement should Tevez be heading out of Eastlands this summer.

What is does likely mean though is that both Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor will be heading for the exit, with both out of favour with Mancini and on levels of wages that the club would ideally want to rid themselves of (amongst others).

YouTube is never something you should form an opinion from but it does back up the concensus view of Dzeko's abilites: size, strength, the ability to finish adeptly with two feet and also provide the aerial threat lacking at present:

More to come no doubt over the next few days as we head towards the January window.
