Newcastle player ratings

Hart - Relatively little to do. No chance with the goal but pulled off one or two smart saves low down. 6.5

Boateng - Although finding his feet still, looked very competent defensively. Some concerns with over ambitious distribution. 6

Kolo Toure - Another largely solid display, but perhaps guilty of being on his heels to allow Jonas to beat him to the rebound on the goal. 6

Kompany - Coped admirably with the physical test of Ameobi and Carroll with relative comfort. 7

Lescott - Effectively our fourth choice left back - and it shows. Not suited to the attacking demands of the role. Fortunate not concede the late penalty. 5.5

de Jong - Criticism has not been as forthcoming as I anticipated over his tackel on Ben Arfa, but his recklessness in that area meant it was no surprise. Retreated uncharacteristically into his shell thereafter. 5

Barry - A good display defensively, but unable to create or offer much in the way of creativity or attacking play. 6

Yaya Toure - Had impressed the past couple of games, but took a step back. Symptomatic of the lack of pace and creativity as a whole yesterday. A plus point was that his status didn't preclude him from being deservedly hauled off. 5

Milner - Possibly the most creative of the midfielders. Keen to work the left hand channel, but his final delivery at times was not quite there. 6.5

Silva - A couple of bright moments, particularly as the game progressed, but lacked the zip and spark he is capable of. 6

Tevez - Got in behind the defence a couple of times and worked well across the line. Another hard working display. 6.5

Subs:

Adebayor - Worked hard and got himself into some good positions. Does need a goal though. 6

Johnson - A wonderful goal, created, sculpted and finished by himself. Added a spark and life that the game had lacked. 7

Vieira - Came on late. Little chance to impress. n/a
