UEFA Cup matchday 1

This evening saw the first round of games in our UEFA Cup group, and as we were on our 'night off', it would have enabled Mark Hughes and his staff to get some scouting in on our future opponents.

Perhaps a surprise in Holland as Twente defeated Racing 1-0, a turn up given that most expected Twente to struggle in this group.

It went with form in Germany though as Schalke were victorious over PSG by a 3-1 margin to confirm their status as group favourites and most likely the team to beat, but the way results have gone, it does give us a good opportunity to set ourselves up if we can take all three points from our first game in the competition at home to Twente on November 6th.
