City 2 EB/Streymur 0

Much like the first leg in that we really should have come away with a far greater winning margin to match the dominance we enjoyed.

Whilst we were rusty and a little off the pace in the first leg, we looked far sharper last night and there was more pace and a greater sense of urgency about our play last night.

The first half was a frustrating affair though as we had plenty of opportunities to open the scoring, but a combination of ill fortune and a lack of clinical finishing when it mattered hindered us and meant the game was still in the balance somewhat at the half.

Impressive was the partnership between Vassell and Sturridge, although Vassell again frustrated when presented with an opportunity - hardly being described as 'trigger happy', whilst Sturridge was not shy, but perhaps lacked a level of coolness (or more likely experience) in front of goal.

It was down the flanks we enjoyed much success, with Petrov again the main go to guy, although I thought Elano on the right was far brighter and effective than he showed when deployed their on occasion last season, and linked up well with Corluka and drifted infield well to join the attack.

Petrov it was who opened the scoring, effectively sealing the tie just a couple of minutes into the second half as the EB/Streymur goal was finally breached, and from there on we continued to dominate, with Petrov invariably at the heart of everything, and Vassell got reward for his hard work when he added our second and final goal which livened up the latter part of a game which began to idle away over the final quarter of an hour.

Whilst we were not under threat at any stage of the game, it must be a concern that our possession and territorial advantage did not yield a greater reward, and against sides with a better pedigree will this cost us?

But for now at least, it was a case of job done and we advance on towards today's 2nd qualifying round draw.

Manchester City enjoyed another European win in July, but as with the first-leg victory over this amateur team from the Faeroe Isles, they again looked very much a side that was working their way through preseason as they overcame EB Streymur at Oakwell, in Barnsley, last night. >>timesonline.co.uk
