Two more exciting matches today:
- Argentina v Switzerland, 12pm, ABC
- Netherlands v Costa Rica, 4pm, ESPN
Both games are filled with intrigue. Argentina v Belgium features two teams that barely scraped through the Round of 16 and are yet to hit their best form. Two teams filled with individual talent which has dragged them along to this point. This match is also a hot spot for City players: Kompany, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Aguero (still injured).
The final match pits perennial underdogs Costa Rica against Holland. The tactical battle in this one will be interesting, as both teams play a version of the 5-2-3; Costa Rica being much more defensive, however. Nigel De Jong will miss out for Holland through injury, which means that the Dutch may have to start a relatively inexperienced (and slightly out of position) duo of Daley Blind and Georginio Wijnaldum in central midfield. Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has sparkled for Costa Rica throughout the tournament but will have his hands full against self-confessed Olympic diver-- er, winger, Arjen Robben and co.
Both matches will be overshadowed of course by yesterday's news that the son of Brazil, Neymar, will miss the rest of the tournament after suffering a fractured vertebrae in yesterday's rough 51-foul match. With both he and Thiago Silva (suspended) missing the seminfinal match against the machine that is Germany, Brazil could be in trouble.
