Gordon. And, indeed, Bennett. Why do the Blues keep on doing this to me?
I have just watched us see off Everton and - though it should come as no surprise - we did it the hard way! Why can't we EVER do anything the easy way? Why do we always leave it to the last minute to achieve anything? Champions? Last day. Relegated? Last day. Promoted? Last day. You get the picture.
All my life, we have been world champions at Brinksmanship. If they awarded medals for putting your fans through it, we would need an extension to the Trophy Room. The biting of my nails passed the "Quick" status years ago. City seem utterly incapable of engaging "cruise" mode. No matter who is playing, who manages the club, who the Chairman is or even which ground we play at - it's always a last minute thing.
I ache for the "title is won with three games to go" scenario. I long for the chance to put my feet up and chat, while watching us demolish all the opposition, without the need for restoriative doses of Valium. I thirst for the opportunity to bask in the knowledge that we have things in our control for longer than 30 seconds. It took several "trebles" to manage today's win at Goodison - and I have to relive the whole thing again, on Match of the Day!!
Please, Senors Pellegrini, Soriano and Bergiristain - take pity on a looooooong-suffering Blue: win the next trophy with time to spare. Give my poor heart a break.
PS. I suppose it could be worse. If it was THAT easy, I would probably be a Red. And a Cockney....
