Rumour Roundup

This summer, I'll be putting together a weekly rumour roundup for the MCFC subreddit, Figured you'd all be interested as well. Give it a read:

Ok, so this will be the first in a long line of these. Not comprehensive, there are simply too many, just stories that have (a little) merit and have been corroborated by multiple newspapers. The order in which they're mentioned is loose, but is intended to be from More Likely to Less Likely. So without further to do...

Diego Novaretti, CB, 28

Argentine defender, previously of Deportivo Toluca in Mexico, available on a free transfer. City have been linked with him since early this year. Recently linked with Monaco, but who hasn't been. Just today (literally now), however, it's been announced he will have a medical at Lazio tomorrow. Strange saga, this.

Carlos Tevez

Carlitos has been the subject of many differing rumours, as he's entering the last year of his contract. Tevez has been linked with Juventus and AC Milan, both in the area of £8-10 million. He has also been mentioned as a makeweight in a deal Stephen El Shaarawy (see below). City have also been rumoured to be planning a 2-year contract extension. This one will drag on.

Edin Dzeko

The Bosnian Diamond has been linked to Napoli and Borussia Dortmund to replace Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski, respectively. Figures reported vary wildly, and talks of swap deals, involving Dzeko+cash have been mentioned. Recent reports also indicate Dzeko will be allowed to fight for his place at City.

Edinson Cavani, ST, 26

Another rumour that has seemed to float around since the previous decade, and one which we are all familiar with. Most recently, Cavani has been quoted as saying, "To be coached by someone like Pelligrini or Mourinho would be a pleasure." With PSG, City and Chelsea involved, expect Napoli owner de Laurentis to hold out as long as possible to get as much money as possible.

Aleks Kolarov

Oh Kolarov. After sparkling in Serie A for Lazio, and being sold for ~£24 million, he has never caught on with City. Expect to see a lot of rumours for him to return to Italy. Most recently, Aleks has been linked with a move to Juventus for £6.5m.

Angel di Maria, Winger, 25

Widely linked to City, recent reports suggest Manuel Pelligrini has sanctioned a £30m bid. Real Madrid has him under contract until 2018, with a buyout clause of, drumroll, €150 million. Ya. di Maria was underutilized by Mourinho, but Real could wait until a new manager arrives to sell him.

Robert Lewandowski, ST, 24

Entering the final year of his contract, Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a dream move to Bayern Munich, where a contract is already in place. But, Dortmund has flatly refused to sell him to Bayern, preferring to let his contract expire. Thus, new clubs will be linked are now being linked with Lewandowski. With only one year remaining he should be available for ~£20m, but it all depends on the player being willing to sign a deal. This saga will drag on.

Joleon Lescott

Joleon has long been linked with a move away from the Etihad, in order for him to establish himself in Roy Hodgson's England squad. Since David Moyes' exit from Everton, though, talk of moving to Merseyside have quieted. The newest link, and my favorite of all, comes from Marca: *Barcelona*, after failing to sign Thiago Silva, Vincent Kompany, Mats Hummels, and David Luiz, will make a shock bid for *Joleon Lescott*! Classic.

Pepe, CB, 30

After losing his starting place to 18 year old phenom Raphael Varane, Pepe is known to be looking to leave the Bernabeu. Reports have linked Pepe to City, for upwards of £21m. £21m for a 30 year old third choice CB. Surely not, Txiki?

Stephen El Shaarawy, CF, 20

Lastly, the much talked about Pharaoh. Widely linked with City, for £30m, £20m+Tevez, etc. But in an interview with La Repubblica, El Shaarawy has indicated he is flattered by the interest, but is happy with Milan and intends to stay. This rumour should linger, but remains highly unlikely.

Youth Players

Lastly, some City youth reports:

Abdi Ibrahim, after impressing on loan with Norwegian side Strømsgodset, has been linked with about half of the Premier League, including Arsenal. Expect City to only loan, not sell the 22 year old.

John Guidetti, still fighting for fitness following a nerve disease, and now struggling with a knee injury, will surely go on loan this season, once he is healthy. After impressing at Feyenoord with 20 goals in 23 appearances, the 21 year old should have many takers. Most recently he's been linked with a loan move to Sunderland.
