It looked inevitable all summer and now it's finally happened -- according to a report on their official site, Sunderland have completed the signing of 25-year-old winger Adam Johnson on a four-year contract from Manchester City. The official report claims that the fee is undisclosed, but a figure of around £10M has been bandied about, and that seems reasonable in light of the £11M West Ham United paid for Matt Jarvis and the £9M Chelsea spent on Wigan's Victor Moses.

Johnson, 25, had spent the last two and a half seasons with City after signing during the January 2010 transfer window, making 97 appearances with the club and scoring fifteen goals. However, the arrival of several star front men had seen him fall out of favour with Roberto Mancini, and he was clearly not in the defending Premier League champions' long-term plans. As his home town club -- having a bit of money to spend helped too -- Sunderland made the most sense as Johnson's destination.
