Euro 2012: City players progress to knock-out stage

City player were once again involved as the group stage of Euro 2012 was brought to a close with the conclusion of Group D last night.

England of course progressed from the Group as winners courtesy of their 1-0 win over hosts Ukraine. The trio of Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott and James Milner again featured for England, with Joe Hart making a couple of smart saves in keeping a clean sheet. Milner had a first half chance to score but his role (once again) was primarily to restrict the opposition and he was ultimately substituted after 70 minutes.

Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy were in the France side that were defeated 2-0 by Sweden (who featured former City goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson). Nasri was far less effective than he was in the first two games and with an injury worry he was substituted in the second half.

With last nights results England now play Italy in Sunday's quarter-final whils France play Spain on Saturday.
