World Cup 2010 - Tevez shines as Argentina roll on

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - JUNE 27: Carlos Tevez of Argentina celebrates scoring his second goal and his side's third during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Round of Sixteen match between Argentina and Mexico at Soccer City Stadium on June 27, 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Carlos Tevez turned in his most noteworthy performance of the tournament so far as Argentina continued their fine run so far with a 3-1 win over Mexico to set up a clash with Germany in the quarter-finals.

Tevez was on the scoresheet twice, one controversial, one sensational as the game was all but done and dusted early into the second half. After the controversy surrounding England's 'non goal' earlier in the day, Tevez's opener was mired in controversy as he headed home Argentina's opener standing two or three yards in an offside position - the result of which left Mexico's players imploring the officials to look at the replays that were being shown on the screen inside the stadium.

The day had begun with rumours linking Tevez with a move to Real Madrid (with Tevez long coveted by Jose Mourinho when he was at Inter) and his second goal would not have dissuaded his suitors any as he struck home from almost thirty yards out with a shot that arrowed into the top corner - cementing his reputation as a striker of long range goals.

Tevez was withdrawn in the 69th minute for Juan-Sebastian Veron, resting him for their clash with Germany in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon.
