Speculation mounts over Silva deal

A story that has bubbled the past few days appears to be gathering a head of steam as it has been reported heavily across Spain that City have reached an agreement with David Silva over a transfer to the club.

Whilst interest in Silva has been reported previously, news broke yesterday that City and Valencia had reached an agreement over a fee and that permission had been granted to hold talks with the player.

Following that announcement, though it was further reported that Chelsea had not been ruled out of making a late bid for the player, perhaps buoyed by comments from Silva's agent, Julio Llorente:

"We won't know where he is going this week because we're weighing up offers from three clubs and one of them is Chelsea. If Silva doesn't want to go (to City), the transfer isn't possible."

I must confess that I remained sceptical over the possibility of his signing given there has been no real inclination of a desire on Silva's behalf to move to the Premier League, let alone to City.

However, matters appear to be drawing to a conclusion and Tor-Kristian Karlsen this afternoon tweeted that sources had confirmed that Silva had agreed terms. In addition, reports out of Spain from both AS and Marca today, in addition to a report on Spanish radio station Onda Cero that all suggest that the deal has been agreed (even possibly officially announced later this evening).

I'll post more once further details are confirmed.
