World Cup 2010 - Tevez off to a winning start

Carlos Tevez and Argentina got off to a winning start against with their 1-0 victory over Nigeria in Johannesburg yesterday thanks to an early goal from Gabriel Heinze.

As expected, Tevez started ahead of the likes of Sergio Aguero and Diego Milito as part of a front trio alongside Leo Messi and Gonzalo Higuain and although in a slightly different role than seen at City, the movement and willingness to drop deep were all in evidence - and a prime reason why Diego Maradona included him in the side.

Argentina did look a dangerous side and caused plenty of problems going forward and could/should have added to their total but for the fine form of Vincent Enyeama in the Nigerian goal.

Of concern to them though must have been the threat that Nigeria themselves posed at times, with their question marks over the Argentinian defence not being answered on the basis of the opening game. Although they will be expected to go deep in the tournament, better sides will surely test them.

Their next fixture is against South Korea on Thursday, which will be a good game to catch with the lively Korean attack having the potential to cause problems.
